Forechecking

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Forechecking ( English ), pressing or in German attack defense, is a tactical variant in sport . The phrase that originated in ice hockey is now also used in other sports, e.g. B. Soccer used. Forechecking refers to the early disruption or combating of the opposing attack or attempted attack in the opposing half or third (ice hockey).

This tactical variant requires a good level of fitness, especially the midfielders and strikers , as they are the ones who do the fore-checking by disturbing or fighting the players in charge of the ball (of the build-up game). In ice hockey, this defense variant is mainly used in power play and in a pressure situation.

The term is an integral part of modern football.
