Forfar Castle

Forfar Castle is an Outbound Castle in Forfar in the Scottish county of Angus . The moth was erected in the 11th century.

history

The castle was obviously surrounded by water and served the kings Malcolm III. , Wilhelm I and Alexander II as a royal castle. King Malcolm used it as a base for raising troops to repel Danish invaders. King Edward I of England garrisoned it and visited it in 1296. The Scots recaptured it on Christmas Day 1308 and slaughtered the English garrison. After being destroyed and rebuilt, Forfar Castle was abandoned in the 1330s.

Remains are said to have been visible up to the 17th century, but today nothing of the castle can be found above ground.
