Forkorus Yoboisembut

Forkorus Yoboisembut (* in West Papua ) - is a Papuan political activist who campaigns for the independence of the people of West Papua (Indonesia).

He is the council chairman of Papua's opposition organization Dewan Adat Papua . He was best known for calling for an international investigation into the death of West Papua's opposition activist, Yawan Wayeni. He said that a clarification of the case in the Indonesian court would not be credible. He also criticized the Indonesian government for supporting the resettlement program of Java resettlers who are supposed to colonize the areas traditionally inhabited by Papuans. From October 17-19, 2011, he took part in the Third Papuan People's Congress in the city of Abepur and was elected interim president of the symbolic, non-existent Democratic Republic of Papua . On October 19, 2011, he was arrested for high treason . When the Indonesian troops started a military operation in the city of Paniai in early December 2011, he called on the US government and the international community to put political pressure on the Indonesian authorities to end the operation.
