Formica ( Italian for 'ant') is one of the smaller Egadi islands . It is located between the island of Levanzo and the coastal city of Trapani and belongs to the municipality of Favignana .
The island has a size of around four hectares . It reaches a height of five meters. There are still remains of an old tuna factory ( tonnara ) and a fort with a lighthouse.
The island is privately owned and serves the Mondo X Foundation, founded by Padre Eligio, as a rehabilitation center for young people who are addicted to drugs. Entering the island is only permitted in exceptional cases, including tourist stays where the young residents of the island entertain the guests.
