The research group Weltanschauungen in Germany (fowid) was set up in January 2005 by the Giordano Bruno Foundation . Its aim is to collect, evaluate, summarize and make publicly available comprehensive empirical information on all aspects of world views .

Work content

The project has set itself the task of collecting, evaluating, summarizing and making publicly available comprehensive information on all questions related to world views, both in a religious and in a political sense. According to his self-portrayal, he can “fall back on existing empirical data collections (statistical yearbooks, annual reports, demoscopic studies, etc.)” in his work . In some cases it is possible to “subject this data to a statistical secondary analysis” and “evaluate it specifically with regard to the ideological aspect”. These “partly adopted, partly newly analyzed data” would be supplemented by “results of our own empirical studies”. In the presentation, a distinction is made between “the factual description” and, if necessary, “an opinion-related comment”.

The information offered includes the annually updated evaluation of the religious affiliations in Germany with a graphic cake that is received in the media and science.

criticism

Andreas Fincke, theologian and former deputy head of the Evangelical Central Office for Weltanschauungsfragen , criticized the founding of the research group in 2006. Their statements are mostly reliably researched, but tend to be selected.
