The Fort Altit is an old Fort in Karimabad in the Hunza -Tal in Gilgit-Baltistan in Pakistan . It was the headquarters of the rulers of the Hunza state for a long time . Today Fort Altit is a tourist destination.
The fort was in danger of falling into ruin until it was restored by the Aga Khan Development Network for Historic Cities .
Location and appearance
The fort lies on two crags, with the eastern rock higher than the western rock. The fort was therefore adapted to the natural terrain and divided into six terraces with different levels. The sections of the fort include a mosque , a granary and a guest wing.
