Fort Rotterdam is a Dutch fortress in Makassar , South Sulawesi. Originally it was owned by King Gowa IX. Karaeng Tumapa'risi 'Kallonna made of clay . In 1545, King Gowa X Karaeng Tunipalangga Ulaweng had their walls reinforced with bricks and binding agents made from egg white. In 1634, Sultan Alauddin had the fortress reinforced with stone walls, whereby the originally square fortress with its new five bastions was given the shape of a sea turtle. The Dutch Admiral Cornelis Speelman conquered it in 1667 and named it after his birthplace Rotterdam to Fort Rotterdam to. Six years later, the fortress began to be strengthened by building walls seven meters high and two meters thick. In addition, courtyard houses in the Dutch style and a church were built.
