Cornelis Speelman

Cornelis Speelman (March 2, 1628 , † January 11, 1684 in Batavia ) was Governor General of the Dutch East Indies from 1681 to 1684 .

At the age of 16 he went to India on board the “Hillegersberg”. In the service of the Dutch East India Company he became an assistant and in 1645 he came to Batavia (now Jakarta).

On October 29, 1680 he was appointed Governor-General of the Dutch East Indies and took up the post on November 25, 1681. During his tenure, the Sultanate of Ternate was conquered. He died on January 11, 1684 in Batavia Castle.
