Forties is a sea area in the western North Sea off the Scottish coast.

It borders the Fair Isle and Viking sea areas to the north, the South Utsire and Fisher sea areas to the east, the Dogger Sea area to the south and the Cromarty and Forth sea areas to the west .

The establishment of this weather forecast area was decided in 1955, together with other changes, in a conference of meteorologists from the North Sea bordering countries . Forties emerged a year later mainly from the north-eastern part of what was then the Dogger region . In 1984 and most recently in 2002 the division of the sea areas was changed again.

The largest oil and natural gas field in the North Sea is located in the Forties sea area.
