BSG progress Hohenstein-Ernstthal
The BSG Progress Hohenstein-Ernstthal was an East German sports club. The club made a name for itself especially in badminton , ice hockey and gymnastics .
history
The gymnast Henry Sunday achieved his first successes for the club. He won bronze at the GDR championships in 1953 in all-around, on the rings and on the ground. On the horizontal bar it was even enough to make silver.
In badminton, progress Hohenstein-Ernstthal was one of the first clubs. From the first title fights of the 1959/60 season, BSG players took part in GDR championships. With Astrit Schreiber even a national player comes from the club. Her greatest success was winning the GDR championship title in 1978 in women's doubles with Monika Cassens . With Joachim Schimpke, another later GDR national player learned to play with the shuttlecock in the town on the Sachsenring . The Hohenstein Ernstthaler Bernd Lawrenz officiated in the GDR as a young national coach and led nephew Hardy in particular to success.
In the mid-1980s, the club's ice hockey team advanced into the B group of the GDR's best determination and came fourth in both 1983 and 1986, which meant a 10th place within the GDR in the total accounting of all teams.
Progress Hohenstein-Ernstthal achieved smaller successes in table tennis . At the end of the 1960s, the club's female youth were considered a top team in the GDR. The first men's team played in 1965/66 and 1979/80 in the 2nd district league center.
In athletics , the club set a Saxony-wide record in the youth field in 1981 and had a broad group of runners.
