Fortuna Glückstadt is a sports club from Glückstadt in the Steinburg district (and not to be confused with the local newspaper Glückstädter Fortuna ). The first soccer team played for three years in the regional league Nordmark and Gauklasse Schleswig-Holstein .

history

The association goes back to the MTV founded on October 8, 1860 in Glückstadt , which joined the general education association Glückstadt in 1874 . MTV Glückstadt split off again on August 19, 1876 . On June 12, 1910, the football department was founded. During the early 1920s, the club's name was changed to VfL 1876 Glückstadt , before the football department split off in 1923 and merged with FC Union Glückstadt to form SpVgg Fortuna Glückstadt . The remaining VfL Glückstadt changed its name in the 1930s to Reichsbahn VfL Glückstadt and was dissolved in 1945. TSV Reichsbahn Glückstadt was re-established on February 8, 1946 and merged with SpVgg Fortuna Glückstadt on October 27, 1949 to form ETSV Fortuna Glückstadt . The Free Game Association Glückstadt , which was banned in 1933, was also part of this club .

The first successful period of the association began with the opening of a naval barracks. In 1940, SpVgg Fortuna was promoted to the Nordmark division , from which it had to be relegated again. After the sports division was dissolved, Fortuna was accepted into the Schleswig-Holstein Gauliga in 1942 as the first class relay champion (west) . At this or later time, guest players such as Paul Janes , Richard Dörfel , Herbert Panse and Fred Kelbassa are said to have worn the Fortuna jersey due to the war, but this has only been documented for Janes so far.

After the Second World War , Fortuna was one of the founding members of the Schleswig-Holstein State League (today: Flens Oberliga ) in 1948 . In the 1949/50 season, the team reached fourth place and was able to defeat the master Itzehoer SV in both games. After numerous top performers left the club in 1953, relegation from the Schleswig-Holstein upper house followed a year later. It was not until 1959 that the Glückstadt team was able to celebrate the championship in the 2nd Amateur League West , but only achieved one point in the following promotion round. In 1968 Fortuna missed the qualification for the newly created association league.

Many years in the midfield of the district league followed before he was promoted to the association league in 1977. Two years later, the relegation followed, which was followed in 1984 by relegation to the district class. In the following years, the club shuttled between the district league and the district class, before Fortuna 1999 qualified for the newly created district league West . In 2008, the Glückstadt team qualified for the newly created Association League Southwest , from which they promptly had to relegate. Since then, the team has been playing in the Kreisliga West .
