The Forum Marinum is a maritime museum on the River Aurajoki in Turku , Finland, as well as the official Finnish Marine Museum.
history
The Forum Marinum was founded in 1999. Two different museums were combined, the Turku Maritime Museum (founded in 1977) and the Åbo Akademi Museum of Maritime History (founded in 1936).
The former Turku Maritime Museum focused on expanding and maintaining the library, archive, and research. The Åbo Akademi-Museum was concerned with the organization of exhibitions and mainly took care of the expansion and maintenance of object collections. These functions are now transferred to the Forum Marinum.
Exhibitions
The Forum Marinum is housed in the two buildings Kruununmakasiini ("the memory of the crown") and Linnanpuomi ("the lock"). The permanent exhibition Work at Sea ( Finnish : Töissä merellä ) is located in the Kruununmakasiini building, which was renovated in 2016 . The Linnanpuomi building houses exhibitions on shipbuilding, a boat collection and a room for special exhibitions.

- the gunboat Karjala and
- the miner Keihässalmi
