Forum of European Muslim Youth and Student Organizations

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Forum of European Muslim Youth and Student Organizations ( FEMYSO ) is a European network of Muslim youth and student organizations that has an office in Brussels and is part of the international movement of the Muslim Brotherhood .

Origin and connections

In June 1996 the Federation of Islamic Organizations in Europe ( FIOE ) merged with Muslim youth organizations from Sweden, France and England and the Saudi World Assembly of Muslim Youth (WAMY) to form a European Islamic youth organization. On September 1, 1996, 35 delegates from eleven countries met in Leicester and formally launched FEMYSO, which is based in Brussels. FEMYSO is a member of the "International Islamic Federation of Student Organizations" (IIFSO) based in Kuwait.

The first FEMYSO president was Ibrahim El-Zayat , who was also a board member of the FIOE and an administrator of the FIOE foundation "European Trust" as well as the European representative of WAMY, and in these functions ensured the financing. His successor as FEMYSO President in 2002 was Khallad Swaid, former chairman of the Muslim Youth in Germany (MJD) and board member of IIFSO, who was replaced by Mohammad Fateh Atia from Sweden in April 2007.

As a lobby organization, FEMYSO seeks contacts to the European Parliament, the Council of Europe, the European Youth Forum (EYF), the Ecumenical Youth Council in Europe (EYCE), the European Youth Center Budapest (EYCB), the European Students' Union (ESU) and other organizations . FEMYSO receives funding from Saudi Arabian sponsors and Islamic Relief , among others , and receives project funds from the EU.

According to its own assessment, FEMYSO has become the “ de facto voice of Muslim youth in Europe”. According to the assessment of the Office for the Protection of the Constitution of Baden-Württemberg in the report from 2005, FEMYSO was dominated by the Muslim Brotherhood in Europe and the media public believed that FEMYSO and most of its member organizations can be assigned to the Muslim Brotherhood.

Member organizations

According to the FEMYSO brochure, the network consists of a total of 42 national and international organizations that bring together young people from more than 26 different countries.
