Under padding , padding or full bath impregnation refers to a method for the wet treatment of fabrics ( woven fabrics , knitted fabrics and non-wovens ) on a Foulardmaschine .

The broad product (substrate) is passed through a trough . The liquor (for example finishing liquor, dye liquor or similar) is located in this trough . The finished substrate is then passed through two or more pairs of rollers in order to squeeze off the excess liquor to a precisely defined level and to transport the goods on.

The amount of liquor taken up is given as a percentage of the weight of the raw material. A liquor uptake (or squeeze effect) of 70% means that 100 kg of raw material take up 70 kg of liquor.

The padding process is an important and widespread textile finishing step, which is mainly used in the finishing of large batches and which is almost always followed by a drying or fixing device after the padding machine, with which the liquor is dried and / or fixed on the substrate.

  • The block steaming process is a continuous dyeing process, today the only dyeing process of industrial importance.
  • The Klotz-Jigger-Process is a discontinuous process for padding the paint and developing it on jiggers (Pad-Steam-Process). In the jigger, the dyed material is guided through the dye liquor in a stretched and wrinkle-free state. This guarantees an even distribution of color across the entire width.
  • The cold pad process (KKV) is a semi-continuous dyeing process. The colors (mostly reactive dyes) are padded and developed on jiggers. The goods are then rolled up (docked), the roll is wrapped in foil and left at room temperature with slow rotation until a uniform coloration and fixation is achieved. The goods are then rinsed. The process saves energy and is ecologically and economically advantageous.
