The Fríðrikskirkjan ( Friedrichskirche ) is a modern church in Nes - Toftir / Faroe Islands . It belongs to the Faroese national church and to the oldest evangelical parish in the country, which was established in Nes in 1541 with Heini Havreki as the first parish priest and provost.

The architect is the Faroese Høgni Würdig Larsen. The foundation stone was laid on October 7, 1993, and the completed building was inaugurated on November 27, 1994.

The Friedrichskirche was named after the Faroese provost Fríðrikur Petersen, who worked in this parish from 1900 to 1917. It replaces the old wooden church in Nes from 1843. The parish of Nes at the time stretched from Nes to Skipanes .

Today the parish includes Nes, Toftir, Saltnes and Æðuvík . The parish of Gøta also belongs to the parish of Nes with its highly modern church from the same period, the Gøtu Kirkja . The high population growth since the turn of the century and especially since the end of the Second World War made a larger parish church necessary.

When choosing a location, special emphasis was placed on a central location, good visibility and the range of the bell sound. In the first half of the 1980s , funds began to be raised for the construction.

In the open architecture competition in 1991 u. a. stipulated that there had to be space for 400 to 600 people in the church and that the construction costs could not exceed 15 million Danish kroner . The project by Høgni W. Larsen was chosen from 29 proposals. According to the reason, it is a pure style church, which took old traditional Faroese churches as a model. The stone carvings for the altar panel, the altar , the pulpit and the baptismal font in the Friedrichskirche were carried out in a specially built workshop by Høgni W. Larsen himself.

The church consists of three parts of the building. The load-bearing structure is made of white-painted reinforced concrete , while the load-bearing roof structure is made of white-stained glulam. The interior walls of the ship are made of aerated concrete painted white, while the altar wall is made of reinforced concrete painted white and plastered. The floor in the front and back of the church is made of Portuguese slate .

The inventory of the church was also designed by Høgni W. Larsen. The altar panel, the altar and the pulpit are made of black Swedish granite and brass , while the baptismal font is made of Faroese columnar basalt and brass. The altar panel weighs about six tons and the altar about three tons. Høgni W. Larsen also designed the special chandeliers , lights and candle holders made of brass.
