history

On September 15, 1897, the freight forwarding company Fr. Meyer's Sohn (FMS) was founded by Friedrich Hugo Ernst Meyer . The first company headquarters with 35 square meters was in an office building in Hamburg's Brandstwiete . In 1911, eleven employees handled transports for the paper industry. After the First World War, the company was rebuilt, and the paper department resumed its work in 1919. The first branch was opened in Lübeck. At the end of the 1930s, 100 employees were employed and 55 trucks were transporting imported goods from Hamburg to Saxony. On the way back, paper was taken from the Thuringian and Saxon paper mills.

After the Second World War, a new reconstruction began. New branches were opened in West Germany. As a result of the political developments, contacts with the East German paper mills broke off. The company therefore turned to the paper industry in Austria and expanded the export business. Transports to England and overseas were intensified. In 1964 the first branches were opened in Spain. With them came the first orders from overseas. At the end of the 1960s, the business in Scandinavia was expanded. The main focus was no longer just on paper, but increasingly also on general cargo .

After the political upheaval in 1989 , contacts were made with the East German paper industry and branches were opened in the East. The commitment in Eastern Europe was intensified, Ms. Meyer established relationships with paper combines in Russia and Eastern Europe. Further branches were also set up in Western Europe, and after the turn of the millennium it expanded business in Asia and America.
