The FIATA is the International Federation of Freight Forwarders Associations ( French : "Fédération Internationale des Associations de Transit Aires et assimilés" , English : "International Federation of Freight Forwarders Associations" ) and was on 31 May 1926 in Vienna / Austria as a business organization of forwarding to the Established with the intention of promoting and protecting the interests of the industry worldwide.

history

FIATA was founded on May 31, 1926 in Vienna / Austria. Over the years, FIATA introduced various transport documents in order to bring the international forwarding business closer together and to simplify it.

FIATA has advisory status with the United Nations Economic and Social Council ( ECOSOC ), the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development ( UNCTAD ) and the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law ( UNCITRAL ).

She is recognized by many government organizations, government agencies and international private organizations in the transport sector as a representative of the freight forwarding industry. For example from the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC ), the International Air Transport Association ( IATA ), the International Union of Railways (UIC), the International Road and Transport Union (IRU), the World Customs Organization ( WCO ) and the World Trade Organization ( WTO ).

Shortly before the 2001 World Congress in Cancún , Mexico and on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of FIATA, the FIATA presidency decided to celebrate this special event with the establishment of the FIATA Foundation Vocational Training.

The Foundation Vocational Training is an institution that aims to support associations in disadvantaged countries in order to develop and improve professional skills in the industry.

The most recent regulations / statutes came into force after the 2007 Annual General Meeting. With the entry into force, all previous statutes of FIATA and their amendments become invalid.

Application / purpose of FIATA

FIATA acts as an umbrella organization in which it brings together, promotes and coordinates the interests of national and regional freight forwarding trades from different countries on an international level.

In order to safeguard interests, FIATA maintains contact with international and supranational authority organizations and interest groups for transport and trade.

FIATA has made the following points its business:

  • to participate in the definition of regulations in international business
  • to promote the reputation and acceptance of the freight forwarding industry through public relations
  • the editing of publications and specialist papers
  • Ensure assistance to members
  • To organize seminars for training and further education
  • to promote collegial behavior and fair competition, as well as the exchange of economic and technical experience
  • to deal with individual and general questions of trade and transport.

FIATA does not pursue any commercial purposes.

The means for fulfilling the tasks come from:

  • Donations & income for special FIATA services.

The relevant version of the FIATA regulations is in German. The regulations will be translated into English. The language of communication at FIATA is both written and oral in English.

All meetings at the congresses are held in English and translated into two other languages. Which two languages ​​these are is up to the Presidium.

FIATA carrier documents

FIATA forwarding documents are used to standardize the international exchange of goods and are an instrument for simplifying world trade.

The FIATA documents have an excellent reputation and are recognized almost all over the world as documents of tradition and trust

General provisions for the FIATA carrier documents

  • FIATA documents may only be issued by the member organizations of FIATA.
  • The respective national forwarding organizations receive the documents in German, French and English. In addition to one of the three official FIATA languages, it is possible to use a text in your own national language.
  • The member country for which the respective edition of the FIATA documents has been used is illustrated by an imprint of the letters of the respective country (the international vehicle registration numbers are used for this, e.g. AUSTRIA (A), BELGIUM (B), SWITZERLAND (CH)) .)
  • Consecutive numbering is provided for the FIATA FCR and FIATA FCT. This is not required for the FBL and FWR.
  • Before a member association releases FIATA documents, proofs must be submitted to the FIATA secretariat for approval.
  • In order to control the issued documents, the national association keeps a register of the member companies which have received copies of the documents with the indication of the serial numbers.
  • FIATA documents are issued by the national organizations affiliated to FIATA to their member companies, with the corresponding official and detailed explanations for the use of the document.
  • FIATA owns the copyright for the FIATA FCR, FIATA FCT, FBL and the FWR. Reprinting or immediate printing in any form by individual companies is prohibited.
