Faction collectors

A fraction collector is an automatic or semi-automatic laboratory device for collecting fractions that arise during the separation (fractionation) of a mixture of substances by column chromatography . Commercially available fraction collectors consist of a carrier part with collecting vessels (e.g. test tubes ) and an electrically or pneumatically controlled drive, which causes the collecting vessels to be moved one after the other to the collection point for the chromatographic fractions. The control causes the change of the collecting vessels in a certain

  • temporal frequency, or up to
  • Catch a set fraction volume, or up to
  • Collection of a certain number of drops, which is counted electrically with a photocell.
  • Detection of a (specific) signal by a detector upstream of the fraction sampler, such as a line of photodiodes . In this way, unknown substances can also be collected in individual samples and passed on to other investigation methods.
