The Framatome GmbH (formerly Areva GmbH ) is the German subsidiary of the French nuclear engineering company Framatome (formerly Areva NP ). Framatome offers solutions for the development, construction and maintenance of nuclear power plants . The range of services includes the design and manufacture of components, the development and manufacture of nuclear fuels and fuel assemblies as well as services for reactors. The parent company Framatome employs around 14,000 people (as of the end of December 2016) and has been a subsidiary of the EDF Group since 2017 .
history
In 2000, the nuclear division of the Siemens subsidiary Kraftwerk Union (KWU ) was spun off under the name Siemens Nuclear Power (SNP). 2001 created by the merger of Siemens Nuclear Power and the French company Framatome , the nuclear engineering company Framatome ANP ( A dvanced N uclear P ower ), headquartered in Paris. Siemens held a 34 percent stake in the joint venture. Framatome ANP GmbH was formed as a wholly-owned subsidiary of Framatome ANP, Paris, from the SNP parts of the company located in Germany . In the same year, the companies Framatome and Cogéma , which were predominantly owned by the French state, were merged under the company name Areva . The renaming of Framatome ANP to Areva NP on March 1, 2006 was intended to clarify the integration into the Areva Group; on April 1, 2006 Framatome ANP GmbH changed its company name to Areva NP GmbH . On January 26, 2009, the Managing Board of Siemens AG announced the intended exit from the joint venture . This exit took place in March 2011 after the Fukushima nuclear accidents . On March 18, 2011, Siemens sold its stake in Areva NP for 1.62 billion euros to its parent company Areva. Areva NP GmbH has been operating under the name Areva GmbH in Germany since February 4, 2013 . In June 2015, the French state decided to reorganize the nuclear sector in France. This includes, among other things, the decision to split the previous Areva Group into two companies, temporarily referred to as "Areva NewCo" (New Company) and "New NP". Areva Newco has been trading as Orano since January 2018 ; Areva NP was sold to EDF and has been trading under the Framatome name again since then .

Framatome is headquartered in Paris , France , and Framatome GmbH is headquartered in Erlangen . Another location is in Karlstein am Main . At the former Areva GmbH and its subsidiaries in Germany - Advanced Nuclear Fuels GmbH (ANF) and DSR Ingenieurgesellschaft mbH - around 3,800 people were employed at the end of December 2016.
In Lingen (Ems) and Karlstein am Main, ANF manufactures fuel assemblies, fuel assembly components and core parts for nuclear power plants in Europe and for the worldwide Framatome market.
DSR Ingenieurgesellschaft mbH, based in Berlin, offers engineering, project management and consulting services for the operation and dismantling of nuclear facilities.
Products and services
From Germany, too, Framatome offers the operators of nuclear power plants all over the world a comprehensive portfolio of products and services. Framatome GmbH combines - according to its own information - numerous key nuclear skills. This includes electrical and safety control technology, the maintenance and modernization of nuclear power plants, the development and manufacture of fuel assemblies as well as unique test and inspection facilities for safety investigations, but also the dismantling of nuclear power plants.
In addition to nuclear technology, Framatome GmbH drives the development of hydrogen and battery systems for storing energy and offers solutions for non-nuclear industries in the areas of IT security, materials technology and testing, as well as monitoring and diagnostics.
