François Cornelis van Aerssen van Sommelsdijk

François Cornelis van Aerssen van Sommelsdijk (* 1725 ; † 1793 ) was a Dutch nobleman , member of the Dutch knighthood , and the last male descendant of the Aerssen branch of Sommelsdijk .

François Cornelis was born the son of Vice Admiral François van Aerssen van Sommelsdijk and Maria van Aerssen van Wernhout. His father bequeathed him the glories of Sommelsdijk , Spijk and Ooltgensplaat .

François Cornelis van Aerssen held many high offices throughout his life, including the military post of major general of the Dutch infantry. He held other high offices, among others, as a wind lifter of the Rotterdam Chamber of the Dutch East India Company , as director of the Suriname Society (from 1744 to 1770), as Drost von Gorinchem and the " Landes van Arkel " as well as " Houtvester " and General- Jägermeister of Holland and West Friesland.

In 1770 François Cornelis van Aerssen sold his third share in the Suriname Society , of which he had been director from 1744 to 1770, to the city of Amsterdam for the sum of 700,000 guilders .
