François Martin (composer)

François Martin (* 1727 ; † 1757 in Paris ) was a French composer and cellist .

François Martin received his musical education in the court orchestra of Louis, the 6th Duke of Gramont . From the 1740s he was principal cellist at the Paris Opera .

Works

The majority of his compositions are instrumental works in the style of the pre-classical period , there are also a few small cantatas and motets from his pen.

  • Six Symphonies et Ouvertures op. 4 (Paris, 1751) The three three-movement symphonies are in the Italian style, the three overtures have French features.
