François Prévôt

François Prévôt , also François de Montfaucon (* before 1323; † September 28, 1354 ), was Bishop of Lausanne from 1347 to 1354 .

Life

François Prévôt probably came from the Bugey . There he held benefices like the parish churches of Arbignieu and Pézieu . He was first mentioned in 1323 when he was eligible for a canonical in Lausanne. He was dean of Maurienne , official of Belley and counselor to Count Aymon of Savoy . On the recommendation of Ludwig II , lord of Vaud, he became canon in Chartres in 1343 . Pope Clement VI appointed him bishop of Lausanne in 1347. In 1350 he concluded a land peace with the Count of Savoy , Lord of Vaud , Bern and Friborg . Shortly before his death in 1354 he tried to get a transfer to Maurienne.
