François Rappo

François Rappo (* 1955 in Lausanne ) is a Swiss graphic designer and one of the most important Swiss type designers.

Life

Rappo received his diploma in graphic design in 1980 from the Ecole cantonale des beaux-arts de Lausanne . From 2001 to 2006 Rappo was president of the jury for the most beautiful Swiss books and in 2005 a member of the jury for the Federal Design Competition . He is currently professor in the Master’s program Art Direction: Type Design, Photography at the École cantonale d'art de Lausanne (ÉCAL), one of the world's most renowned design universities, where he held a lectureship from 1995 to 1999.

He created a special type of Theinhardt typeface for the New York Times Magazine , which the magazine used for two years until June 2012.

Rappo lives and works in Lausanne .
