François de La Grange d'Arquian

François II. De La Grange d'Arquian , called le maréchal de Montigny (* around 1554, † September 9, 1617 ), Seigneur de Montigny et de Séry , Baron des Aix en Berry , was a French military man, Marshal of France and Lieutenant -général pour Paris et l' Île-de-France .

biography

François de La Grange is the son of Charles de La Grange and Louise de Rochechouart, his younger brother is Lieutenant Colonel Antoine de La Grange d'Arquien . François de La Grange fought - like his brother Antoine - during the wars of religion on the royalist side against both the Huguenots and the Catholic League . At the Battle of Coutras (1587) he commanded the Gendarmerie de France , was captured by the King of Navarre , but released again.

Under Henry IV he lifted the siege of Aubigny in 1591, in 1592 he fought in the siege of Rouen , then in the battle of Aumale, and in 1595 in the battle of Fontaine-Française . In 1597 he commanded the Cavalerie légère during the siege of Amiens . On June 2, 1600 he was appointed Lieutenant-général pour Paris et l'Île-de-France , that is, deputy to the governor, who was Henry IV himself at the time.

Louis XIII made him Marshal of France on September 14, 1615. François de La Grange d'Arquian died two years later, on September 9, 1617, at the age of 63. He was buried in a chapel in Bourges Cathedral.

François de La Grange d'Arquian married on August 1, 1582 in Fontainebleau Gabrielle de Crévant († May 6, 1643), daughter of Claude de Crévant, Seigneur de Beauvais en Touraine, and Marguerite de Hallewyn. The couple had three children:
