Francesco Severi (racing driver)

Francesco Severi (born May 28, 1907 , † May 20, 1980 ) was an Italian racing driver .

Career

Severi was one of the best-known and most successful Italian sports car drivers in the 1930s and at that time a works driver for Scuderia Ferrari . After a second place in the sports car race in Avellino behind his teammate Baconin Borzacchini , he won the Targa Puglia in 1931 for the Scuderia .

In 1934 and 1935 he won the overall ranking of the Targa Abruzzi with partner Franco Cortese . He celebrated his greatest successes in international motorsport at the Spa-Francorchamps 24-hour race . In 1936 he won together with Raymond Sommer in an Alfa Romeo 8C 2900A and in 1938 with Carlo Maria Pintacuda ; the emergency vehicle was again an Alfa Romeo 8C, this time the 2900B. In 1937 he was also successful at the Targa Florio .

Severi also contested a few Grand Prix races; here his best placement was second place at the 1937 Genoa Grand Prix.
