Carlo Maria Pintacuda
Carlo Maria Pintacuda (born September 18, 1900 in Florence , † March 8, 1971 in Buenos Aires ) was an Italian racing driver .
Career
Pintacuda began racing in the mid-1920s and was initially successful in a few smaller, national races. After he won the Giro automobilistico d'Italia , a sports car race , in 1934 with a privately registered Lancia Astura , the Alfa Romeo team noticed him and hired him as a sports car and sometimes also as a Grand Prix driver. One of his greatest successes was winning the Mille Miglia in 1935 and 1937 . In the European Grand Prix Championship in 1936 , he finished fifth at the Italian Grand Prix . He also finished second behind Rudolf Caracciola ( Mercedes-Benz W 25K ) at the 1936 Tunisian Grand Prix in an Alfa Romeo 8C-35 .
Alfa Romeo also used it in several races in South America , where it became very popular due to some victories. After the Second World War , Pintacuda's contract with Alfa Romeo was not renewed. He emigrated to Argentina , where he opened an antique shop in Buenos Aires . In 1971 he died at the age of 70 in his new home.
