Francesco Giudici , called Franciabigio [ frantʃaˈbiːdʒo ] (*  1482 in Florence , †  January 24, 1525 ibid) was an Italian painter.

Life

Franciabigio, actually Francesco di Cristofano Bigi, studied with Mariotto Albertinelli and became Andrea del Sarto's friend . In 1513 he painted with him in Santissima Annunziata in Florence; The fresco Marriage of the Blessed Virgin comes from him , which he himself bitterly damaged by striking it with a hammer because it was discovered too early by the monks.

In the Last Supper in the refectory of San Giovanni della Calza he lags behind that in solid development. His oil painting in Dresden: Bathsheba overheard by David (1523) shows him considerably below his model Andrea del Sarto. The best of all are Franciabigio's portraits: in the Pitti Palace there is a portrait of a young man (1514) of him, of amiable calmness of expression and soulful gaze; in the Palazzo Capponi another excellent one (1517), probably depicting the painter himself; in the Berlin museum that of a youth (1522), outstanding due to its noble conception and freedom of treatment. The work Annunciazione in the Monastery of San Gaudenzio in San Godenzo is attributed to him.
