Francis Escudero

Francis "Chiz" Joseph Guevara Escudero (born October 10, 1969 in Manila ) is a Filipino politician .

Chiz Escudero, son of the former Minister of Agriculture and current MP for the 1st constituency of Sorsogon Salvador "Sonny" H. Escudero III , studied political science after attending elementary school and high school from 1985 to 1989 at the University of the Philippines and graduated from it Studies with a Bachelor of Arts (BA Political Science). He then completed a law degree at the University of the Philippines in 1993 with a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.). He completed further postgraduate studies in international law and comparative law at Georgetown University in 1996 with a Master of Laws (LL.M.). He then worked as a lawyer .

In June 1998 he became a member of the House of Representatives and, after being re-elected in 2001 and 2004, was a member until June 2007. During this time he was first assistant to the Majority Floor Leader and then from June 2001 to June 2004 deputy majority leader. Most recently, during the 13th Congress, as Minority Floor Leader, he was leader of the minority faction and thus the opposition in the House of Representatives.

As a member of parliament, he was significantly involved in several important legislative initiatives such as The Early Childhood Care and Development (ECCD) Act of 2000 (Republic Act 8980), GOVERNANCE OF BASIC EDUCATION ACT OF 2001 (RA 9155) and THE PHILIPPINE VETERINARY MEDICINE ACT OF 2004 ( RA 9268).

Chiz Escudero has been a member of the Senate since June 2007 and has since chaired the Committee on Justice and Human Rights. In addition, he was chairman of the influential Committee on Ways and Means between 2007 and 2010 and has been chairman of the Committee on National Defense and Security since 2010. In addition to Senator Loren Legarda , he is currently Chairman of the Supervisory Committee on the Agreement on Troop Visits and Chairman of the Joint Supervisory Committee of Congress on the Alternative Dispute Resolution Act . On May 13, 2013, Escudero was re-elected for another six-year term in the Senate.
