Francis X. Murphy
Francis Xavier Murphy (* 1915 ; † April 11, 2002 ) was a priest in the Catholic Order of the Redemptorists and professor of church history .
Life
Murphy was ordained a priest in 1940 . In 1945 he received several master's degrees from the Catholic University of America with the script Rufinus of Aquileia (345-411): His Life and Works . He was a chaplain in Annapolis, Maryland, and a military chaplain in the US Army after World War II . In 1959 Murphy became professor of moral theology at the Pontifical Lateran University . He was best known for his reports from the council hall published in the New York Times during the Second Vatican Council , for which he used the pseudonym Xavier Rynne and broke the secret of the council.
