Francisco González Rodríguez (born October 19, 1944 in Chantada ) is a Spanish banker and manager .

Life

González Rodríguez studied at the Complutense University of Madrid . After completing his studies, he worked as an IT programmer from 1964. He later founded his own company, FG Inversiones Bursátiles . From 1996 to 1999 he headed the Argentaria Bank , which merged with Banco Bilbao Vizcaya in 1999 .

From 2001 to 2018 he managed the company Banco Bilbao Vizcaya Argentaria (BBVA). In January 2019, it became known that González had hired a private detective agency in 2004 to wiretap politicians, including King Juan Carlos and Prime Minister José Luis Zapatero , in order to prevent a hostile takeover of the BBVA.
