Francisco Norden (born November 9, 1929 in Brussels ) is a Colombian film director, screenwriter and film producer.

The son of an Austrian father and a Colombian mother attended the Colegio Mayor del Rosario in Bogotá until 1948 . He then began to study architecture at the Universidad Nacional in Bogotá, which he continued at the École Nationale des Beaux Arts in Paris and the Polytechnic School of Architecture in London.

In 1955 he returned to Colombia, where he worked as a film and theater critic for magazines such as El Mercurio , La Calle , Mito and El Tiempo . From 1958 he studied in Paris at the Institut des hautes études cinématographiques (IDHEC). In 1963 he made his first short film Las murallas de Cartagena , which was followed by other short films. With Los balcones de Cartagena (1966) he won the Grand Prix at the Campiones Film Festival. Documentary short films and full-length films continued to be made until the late 1970s.

His film Se llamaría Colombia (1975) won an award at the Tarbes Festival . In 1984 the feature film Cóndores no entierran todos los días was made based on the novel of the same name by Gustavo Álvarez Gardeazábal . With this film about the Colombian civil war in the early 1950s, he won awards at the film festivals in Biarritz, Chicago, Huelva, Havana and Bogotá.

In 1989, Norden produced a series of documentaries on various continents for French television on nomadic culture and in 1992 La ruta del Libertador on personalities from Colombian history. In 2005 he shot the film El trato based on his own script .
