Francisco Rodrigues Lobo

Francisco Rodrigues Lobo (* 1580 in Leiria ; † November 24, 1622 in Lisbon ) was a Portuguese writer .

Life

Rodrigues Lobo was born to noble parents in Leiria, studied at the University of Coimbra and then returned to his home province, where he spent most of his life. He wrote several pastorals in prose and rhyme, of which "Primavera" was the most successful, and was often reissued from 1601 onwards and was considered a model for environmental description in Portuguese literature. Rodrigues Lobo wrote at a time when his country was under Spanish rule; he created a historical epic of some patriotic significance. Lobo's stylistic elegance was widely admired.
