Franco Româna Brăila was a Romanian football club from Brăila . He never played in the highest Romanian league, the Divizia A . The club's greatest success is reaching the quarter-finals for the Romanian Cup in 1936 .
history
Franco Româna Brăila was founded in the 1920s as a sports club of the Franco-Romanian Society in Brăila ( Societatea Franco-Română de Material de Drum de Fier , later Promex ), a company for the repair of railways and trams. The club first played in the regional championship of Brăila, but could never qualify for the final round of the Romanian championship . The greatest success dates from 1931, when the club was able to win the regional championship, but was defeated in the playoff Prahova Ploieşti .
With the establishment of the second Romanian division, Divizia B , in 1934 Franco Româna was one of the founding members. In the 1934/35 season , the club was able to achieve second place in Season V. The 1935/36 season was the most successful in the club's history. The club won season V and only missed the leap into Divizia A in the promotion games . At the same time he reached the quarter-finals of the Romanian Cup in 1936 after victories over Oltul Turnu Măgurele and first division team Chinezul Timișoara . There he was defeated by Unirea Tricolor Bucharest 4-6.
In the following years, the club was initially unable to build on this success. Although he reached the second round of the Romanian Cup twice ( 1937/38 and 1938/39 ), he did not play in the league for promotion. This changed in the 1939/40 season when Franco Româna was able to win his season. However, the club waived the promotion. After the 1940/41 season he no longer took part in the game. After World War II , Dacia Unirea Brăila became the company's sports club.
