history

  • 1998/1999: The initiative of adidas AG and the city of Herzogenaurach enables the school to start operating in the Haundorf district of Herzogenaurach and soon afterwards the move to the Dassler Villa as a new location.
  • 2000: Opening of the kindergarten and expansion of the elementary school .
  • 2003: Relocation of the Middle School to the new Convent Campus , a former nurses' residence in Herzogenaurach and expansion of the classrooms using container classes.
  • 2005: high school opened . Accreditation of the school by international umbrella organizations. The constant demand for places leads to the decision to build a new FIS in Erlangen's Röthelheimpark .
  • 2008: Relocation to Erlangen to an ultra-modern school building. The number of students grows to over 500. Kindergarten, elementary school , middle school and high school are almost entirely double-faced. The demand is unchecked; the decision to expand the high school is made.

  • 2012: Completion of the extension. The school can accommodate up to 650 children.
  • 2015: The high school is relocated to a new building, a few minutes' walk from the main building.
  • 2019: The number of students increases to over 700.
  • 2020: Completion of an additional sports hall on the FIS site.

philosophy

Children from all over the world should have equal educational opportunities regardless of race, gender, religion or nationality. The FIS supports them in developing their full intellectual, social and physical potential. This is done through a curriculum that is not based solely on imparting knowledge, but that encourages the children to take initiative, arouses their curiosity and creativity and promotes their individual talents.

education

The school is divided into Early Years and Elementary School (3–5 years / 1st – 5th grade) and Secondary School (6th – 12th grade). School education follows the IPC ( International Primary Curriculum ) up to the 5th grade , the MYP ( Middle Years Program ) from the 6th to the 10th grade and the IBDP ( International Baccalaureate Diploma Program ) for the last two school years . The training ends with the International Baccalaureate Diploma . It opens the way to study at universities all over the world and is also recognized as a German Abitur under the conditions set by the Bavarian Ministry of Education and Cultural Affairs. At the same time, the FIS offers a diploma that corresponds to the American high school diploma. The language of instruction is English. Children with a different linguistic background are introduced to the level of their class at different levels through the special subject English as an Additional Language . From the 6th grade onwards, Spanish is added. German is also taught through all grades. The International Baccalaureate also allows you to take an exam in your mother tongue, provided that you have acquired the relevant knowledge (with a private teacher). In addition to the natural sciences, sports, art and music are other focal points, expanded to include the new topics of well-being and design thinking .

Students and teachers

The school can accommodate up to 850 students. On average, 70% of these are international, the German share is usually around 30%. The teaching staff is selected taking into account the requirements of the Bavarian school authorities worldwide, with the USA, Canada, Great Britain and Australia being the most strongly represented.
