Austria

In Austria, the term means two things:

On the one hand, the international school is an official type of school with a foreign or non-Austrian curriculum . According to the school type system, the international schools belong to the general educational statutory schools, i.e. schools with an autonomous organizational form.

The following schools belong to this type of school:

  • Lycée Français de Vienne , French school abroad in Vienna, founded in 1946, ( Lycée according to the French curriculum, 1st-12th grade, with school leaving examination )
  • Vienna International School / IB World School (VIS), founded in 1978 for the diplomatic children of the UN City , numerous languages, Vienna (1st – 13th grade, educational qualification without final examination)
  • Amadeus International School Vienna , English-speaking school with boarding school and a musical focus, 1. – 12. School level

  • LISA-JUNIOR International School is the only internationally certified primary school in Upper Austria and offers an English-language, international and holistic school education. Up to the 2014/15 school year, only children between 6 and 10 years of age, i.e. primary school age, were taught. A PYP 5 class was opened for the first time in the 2015/16 school year. Subsequently, over the next six years, the education of the pupils will gradually expand to the ages of 11 to 16 years, PYP 6 to MYP 5, and thus also cover the secondary level of the pupils with an internationally sound pedagogy. These schools attend just over 2,500 students.

On the other hand, the expression is a school name for mainstream schools that teach in several languages within the framework of school autonomy . These include, for example, the Linz International School Auhof  (LISA, bilingual branch of the BG  Europagymnasium Auhof ), the Graz International Bilingual School  (GIBS), and the International Business College Hetzendorf (IBC- :, BHAK / BHAS Vienna 12).

The European Middle School Neustiftgasse  (EMS / WMS, Wiener / Neue Mittelschule , further development of the overall concept of Vienna Bilingual Schooling  VBS, which has been running since 1992/93) is related . In addition, there are numerous public-law multilingual schools for the minority languages in Austria , as well as several private schools of all possible nationalities, especially in Vienna.

There should be around 30 international schools in both senses (according to ISC Research, as of 3/2012).
