The Webster Vienna Private University (WVPU) is an Austrian private university and is part of the Webster University network , which is represented on four continents, in eight countries and 60 cities. Since her relocation in autumn 2014, it has been based in Palais Wenkheim in Vienna's 2nd  district ( Leopoldstadt ), near Schwedenplatz .

The WVPU is managed by the Bildungsverein für die Freunde der Webster University (St. Louis, USA), a non-profit organization.

history

Webster University was founded in 1915 in St. Louis , Missouri , USA by the Loreto Sisters as a college for women. The Vienna campus was founded in 1981 at the invitation of the then Mayor of Vienna Leopold Gratz . In 1985, Webster Vienna Private University received its accreditation and was the first provider of an MBA in Austria. From 1988 to 1999 Elisabeth Chopin headed the university.

In 1996 the company moved to the Donaustadt location near the UN City. In the same year, Webster University awarded an honorary doctorate to Cardinal Franz König and the contemporary witness and Holocaust survivor Simon Wiesenthal .

In 2001 the Webster Vienna Private University was accredited as an Austrian private university. As part of the efforts to meet the accreditation requirements, the first full-time professorships were established in 2004. With the final decision of the Agency for Quality Assurance and Accreditation Austria in October 2015, the application of the Webster Vienna Private University for the extension of the accreditation as a private university was granted subject to conditions and extended until January 8th 2022.

On October 15, 2015, Bernd Marin took over the management of the private university, succeeding Arthur Hirsh, who headed it for 15 years. Bernd Marin's activity ended in June 2016. After that, the long-standing Webster professor and research group leader at the Vienna Institute for Advanced Studies, Johannes Pollak , initially on an interim basis, and since May 2017 permanently took over the management of the university.

Both undergraduate and graduate programs are offered in the four departments of the Webster Vienna Private University:

  • Bachelor of Science (BSc) - Major: Business Administration with a focus on Business Administration
  • Bachelor of Arts (BA) - major subjects: International Relations, Management (with possible specializations: International Business or Marketing), Media Communications, Psychology

Graduate (duration of study: 1–2 years)

master
  • Master of Arts (MA) - major subjects: International Relations and Psychology with a focus on counseling
  • Master of Science (MSc) major: Finance and Marketing
  • Master of Business Administration (MBA) - general degree
