The International Peace School Cologne (IFK) is an international private all-day school in the Cologne district of Widdersdorf , which started operations in 2007. As the “IB World School”, the IFK is part of a worldwide network of international schools that offer the International Baccalaureate (IB Diploma) in English. In addition, the school campus also houses a bilingual grammar school and a bilingual primary school , both of which are officially recognized as substitute schools .

history

Sabine Woggon-Schulz, together with 29 other teachers, initiated the planning of a private school with an interreligious concept and an international focus. For fundraising campaigns and the acquisition of a school building, she founded the non-profit organization Profilschule Weltvision in Frechen in July 2005 .

The building contractor Norbert Amand was looking for a way to add a private school to the Prima Colonia building project approved in Cologne-Widdersdorf in 2006 to create living space in order to raise “the quality of the district” and make it more attractive for future buyers.

The Profilschule Weltvision gGmbH then applied with its school concept, changed its name to Internationale Friedensschule Köln gGmbH in May 2006 and started school operations in 2007 with 44 students, initially in construction containers on the planned school premises.

The construction company Amand invested as the client in the school project, which cost 35 million euros, and the architects from plus + Bauplanung GmbH from Neckartenzlingen near Stuttgart were commissioned to plan the school buildings .

The school has also been running a boarding school since 2017 . The boarding house built for this purpose in 2016 in close proximity to the school offers accommodation for up to 16 upper school students .

In mid-February 2017 it became known that the main investor Amand wanted to withdraw. As a result, parents and teachers founded the Save IFK / CIS eV , the aim of which was to secure long-term funding for further school operations. The financing was secured through debt relief from the investor Amand and with the help of donations and capital contributions from parents and teachers, as well as external investors (including from the ranks of international companies based in Cologne). There was also a reorganization of the shareholder structure. Since the 2017/18 school year, the school has been effectively managed by the parents.
