The International School Augsburg (ISA) is an English-speaking private all-day school in the Augsburg suburb of Gersthofen . As the “IB World School”, the ISA is part of a worldwide network of international co-educational schools that offer the International Baccalaureate (IB Diploma) in English.

The school, founded in 2005, is the only international school within a 60 km radius of Augsburg. In the 2017–18 school year, 342 students were taught by 60 teachers from 18 nations at the school.

history

The Augsburg metropolitan area (Regio A³) and the Munich metropolitan region , as two of the largest Bavarian business locations, are home to a large number of international corporations. In order to attract foreign specialists and executives to the region and to facilitate their global mobility for their employers for local families, an international school for local companies is a relevant location factor. Therefore, the ISA was founded with the support of the Chamber of Commerce Swabia and opened its first school in 2005. The choice of location fell on Gersthofen, 15 minutes from Augsburg city center and 30 minutes from Munich and with good transport links.

In 2005, 65 students began their first year of school in the Early Learning Center, the Lower School (grades 1 to 5) and the first year of the Middle School (grade 6). In 2010, the first class took the international secondary school leaving examination (IGCSE) and the high school opened in the following school year 2010/11. 342 students from over 26 nations started the 2017/18 school year. In 2018, 38 seventh-year students passed the international Abitur examination (IB Diploma).

Campus: the buildings

In 2005 the school moved into its first brick building on Ziegeleistraße. In 2008, the continuous growth made the construction of a sports hall and additional classrooms necessary. In 2009, the new building, which is heated and supplied with electricity by a natural gas-powered combined heat and power unit, was taken over into school operations. The school's own playground, the gym, a wooded area of the school, the school's own canteen, music rooms, an IT / multimedia lab and two science rooms as well as the school bus are available to ISA students.

(School) bus service

The ISA students can use a widely branched school bus network with eight lines, which serve the places Mering, Kissing, Augsburg Zentrum, Friedberg, Dasing, Aichach, Schrobenhausen, Burgau, Jettingen, Krumbach and Neusäß, for example. A dedicated shuttle service connects the school in the mornings and afternoons with the Augsburg main station in 15 minutes without a stop. Furthermore, the school is served by local public transport from the regional bus line 306 of the DB Regio Bus Bayern GmbH (DRB) to Aindling , the regional bus line 512 of the Schwabenbus GmbH to Stadtbergen and the city bus line 58 of the Gersthofer Verkehrsgesellschaft mbH (GVG) . Overall, the catchment area of the school extends to the west of Munich thanks to the quick accessibility by train and shuttle.
