The International School Hannover Region (ISHR) is an international school in Hanover that is privately owned.

Basics

ISHR was founded in 1996. Schulträger is a non-profit International School Hannover Region GmbH . The control lies with the supervisory board. A school board , consisting of elected parent and teacher representatives, offers support and advice. The school curriculum ranges from kindergarten age (three years) to 12th grade and is authorized by the International Baccalaureate Organization in Geneva. The school is regularly accredited by the Council of International Schools (CIS) and the New England Association of Schools and Colleges. She is also a member of the Working Group for International Schools in Germany (AGIS).

Teaching company

In the 2019/20 school year, more than 600 students from over 60 nations will attend the school. They are taught by more than 80 faculty, most of whom are from the US, Canada, UK, Ireland and Australia. The language of instruction is English, German is taught as a mother tongue and as a foreign language from the 1st grade. From the 6th grade onwards, students can choose either French or Spanish as their third language. Another focus is on the natural sciences and robotics. In addition, the subjects of humanities, sports, art, music and computer science as well as outdoor learning complete the range of courses. The activities in the area of ​​“Community and Service” encourage the students to stand up for their school, their community and their city. The afternoon program offers a variety of extracurricular activities (voluntary activities) such as various sports, music, technology, literature, the United Nations model and many more.

Training goal

The framework of the International Baccalaureate Organization enables a globally harmonized and recognized education and training of the students. In addition to conveying the subject matter, the focus is on the development of social skills. At the end of the 12th grade there is a final exam, which is centrally administered and assessed by the International Baccalaureate Organization. This certificate entitles you to study at universities worldwide.

The school has extensive school grounds. It is located in the Calenberger Neustadt between the north bank of the Maschsee and the Schützenplatz Hannover . Parts of the school building, the former Ratsgymnasium , were added to the list of monuments in 1990 by the Lower Saxony State Office for the Preservation of Monuments due to their historical significance and the exemplary nature of the building type. Werner Dierschke and Annemarie Bätjer-Kiene are named as architects . The monument designation relates to the entire historical building group with the exception of the subsequent additions.

In 2006 the school was expanded to include a new library, a student canteen and some classrooms, partly with public support. In 2013 the new upper school center and a second sports hall were put into operation. Four science rooms, computer laboratories, special function rooms for music, art and theater, as well as a large auditorium complete the offer.
