List of school types in Austria
This list gives an overview of the types of schools in the education system in Austria . The organizational forms of the schools are uniformly regulated nationwide . At the state level there are only concepts about the implementation of school experiments and educational reforms .
The Statistics Austria captured in the school year 2011/12 a total of 6,178 schools.
Austrian school systematics
The Ministry of Education has created a uniform system of school types. This assigns each school type a decadic number (hierarchical) and a school type code , as well as a binding long description of school categories, branches, types and groups (long text) .
- The subdivision is broken down systematically, according to the educational content of the schools, into school categories (single-digit decadal designation), school divisions (two-digit number), school types (three-digit number), as well as school types , special forms, school trials , etc. (prefixed "*" without decadal designation). This system can track changes in the education system.
- The school type indicator is a system that has evolved over time. It is awarded for every type of (individual) school, i.e. every curriculum , and never changes.
In addition, each individual school is registered with a unique school code in addition to the type , in which the administrative structure is included.

- (B)Modern education systems do not provide for vocational training in the middle school (around age 10-14) ( child labor ), so there is no ISCED level 2b. School with vocational intent of this stage is called pre-vocational , practical lessons will generally only in the context of work instruction instead
- / BIn recent years there has been a tendency to break the rigid distinction between general education (university preparation) and vocational training (vocational qualification) on the AHS side as well, and to set special educational priorities in the direction of a professional area. A professional qualification does not take place.
- (x) In the case of statutory schools (independent curriculum), individual schools naturally also represent their own school type; these are not explicitly stated here.
- (+) Reformed education schools usually do not provide for a fixed school level sequence, therefore a longer school attendance is provided as possible in the education system; Matura external; some types of school with fewer school levels
- (0–)Many reform education as well as international schools also offer pre-school and elementary schools according to their approach. However, only the secondary levels are explicitly recorded in the school system
