A college for fashion and clothing technology (HLM) is a vocational college (BHS) in Austria .

The five-year training at the Higher Education Institute for Fashion and Clothing Technology teaches its graduates methods of thinking as well as work and decision-making attitudes that enable them to directly pursue an upscale profession in business, especially in the clothing industry, and to take up academic studies.

The official name is HLM - but corresponding schools are often referred to as fashion schools. The HLM belongs to the field of human-vocational schools in Austria, which is attended by students between 14 and 19 years of age.

It lasts five years and ends with the Matura , offers a general education with one or two foreign languages and training in textile technology and includes the creation of work drawings and fashion pictures, pattern designs (including model design with CAD ) as well as manufacturing methods for individual and industrial production of garments .

Career opportunities for graduates arise in fields of activity with a high degree of personal responsibility in various branches of the clothing industry and administration at the middle and higher commercial and administrative level, but there is also access to almost all master craftsman and qualification examinations for independent trade practice (ladies' or men's clothing making), as well as access to all universities in Austria . If you start studying at a relevant university of applied sciences course, the duration of the study can be shortened.
