history

After the already existing at that time Lower Austrian deaf-mute institution in Vienna - Döbling could not be expanded, the municipal council of Wiener Neustadt decided on July 2, 1901 to provide a plot of land for the construction of another institution in the so-called seminar garden in Schneeberggasse. The Lower Austrian state parliament - Vienna was still part of Lower Austria - decided on July 8, 1902 to build a new institution for the deaf and dumb for 100 pupils in Wiener Neustadt. Bureaucratic obstacles delayed the establishment slightly, the school was only opened on October 24, 1903. From 1914, due to the war, the school served as a reserve hospital until 1915 the war hospitaltook over this function, from 1915 the building served as an air officers' school. After the war, the institution for the deaf and dumb was re-established for the deaf and dumb. On October 12, 1932, the Lower Austrian state parliament decided to close the institution for the deaf and dumb and move it to St. Pölten . In 1933 a state vocational school was set up in the building.

In the 2016/2017 school year, the Wiener Neustadt vocational school was closed, with the vocational students being assigned to the Theresienfeld regional vocational school and the Waldegg regional vocational school in the future . After an agreement between Governor Johanna Mikl-Leitner and Mayor Klaus Schneeberger , the HLM and BAfEP moved from the former Kammann barracks in Bräunlichgasse to the former state vocational school in July 2017 .
