The Hallein Fashion School is an archbishop's private school in Hallein and, as a higher education institution for fashion and clothing technology, a vocational college .

history

In 1723, Theresia Zechner, a citizen's daughter from Hallein, founded a community of sisters (later Hallein school sisters ) that taught girls knitting, sewing and wool spinning as well as reading and writing. In 1783 the then Bavarian government ordered a new school method, so that private instruction gave way to systematic instruction. The successes in the annual public exams and the general compulsory education increased the number of pupils to around 120 to 150.

In 1927 a two-year trade school for white and clothing sewing was founded. The NSDAP dissolved the school in 1938 and confiscated all buildings belonging to the order. Teaching was resumed seven years later and the duration of the training was extended to three years.

In 1966, the training was expanded to include commercial subjects in order to expand the professional qualifications. Since 1977, in addition to the technical school for women's clothing makers, there has also been a higher education institution for fashion and clothing technology, which concludes with a maturity and diploma examination. From 1995 on, students can choose between the training focuses on fashion marketing and fashion design ; from 2009 onwards the focus is on fashion marketing and visual merchandising as well as fashion design and graphics . The technical school expires in 2012 and only the Higher School of Fashion will continue to operate. In November 2013 the Hallein fashion school was certified as the first entrepreneurship fashion school in Austria. At the beginning of the 2016/17 school year, the Archdiocese of Salzburg, under the direction of Archbishop Franz Lackner, will take over the running of the Hallein Fashion School.

The expansion of the educational offer to include hairstyling, make-up and make-up art and a part-time fashion college required an expansion of the school. For this purpose, the former boarding house and the school were completely renovated and combined into one building complex. Inside, new fashion workshops, hairstyling salons and a make-up and make-up studio were built. The renovation with a volume of 3.5 million euros was financed by the federal, state and archdiocese of Salzburg and was completed in 2017.
