Olof Thunberg

Fritz-Olof Thunberg (born May 21, 1925 in Västerås ; † February 24, 2020 ) was a Swedish actor , voice actor and director .

life and career

Olof Thunberg studied acting in the 1940s at the Calle Flygare Teaterskola in Stockholm and later from 1950 to 1953 at the Dramatens elevskola . He then took a permanent position at the Östgötateatern theater, where he also gained his first experience as a theater director. He first became known to a wider audience in Sweden as the narrator of the popular radio show Mannen i svart , in which he presented horror and ghost stories. The show ran between 1953 and 1956. Thunberg was regularly active on the radio and in theater productions for decades.

As early as 1947 Thunberg made his cinema debut in a small role in the film Two Women ... directed by Arnold Sjöstrand . Other supporting roles followed; internationally, his appearance as organ player Fredrik in Ingmar Bergman's faith drama Licht im Winter from 1962 is best known. He was also seen on Swedish television in a number of major roles and directed two television films in the early 1970s . In the children's films The Jönsson Gang and the Cornflake Robbery and The Jönsson Gang - Charles-Ingvar's New Plan , which were also broadcast in Germany , he played the role of grandfather in the 1990s. In the 2000s, Thunberg increasingly withdrew from the acting business.

Olof Thunberg lent the comic character Bamse his voice over decades in radio plays and a television series, which made him very popular in Sweden. He also spoke to the master detective Agaton Sax , the main character in a children's book series, in a television series and the movie private detective Agaton Sax . Thunberg can be heard as a voice actor in the Swedish versions of many Walt Disney films, best known as the villainous tiger Shere Khan in The Jungle Book (1967) and the sequel The Jungle Book 2 (2003).

Olof Thunberg was married twice, both marriages were divorced. He is the father of two children. His son is the actor Svante Thunberg and his granddaughter is the climate protection activist Greta Thunberg . Olof Thunberg died on February 24, 2020 at the age of 94.
