The advanced training course (AUL) is a type of school in Austria which, as a course, provides graduates of a vocational middle school  (BMS, technical school) with the matriculation examination (Matura) as well as a diploma  comparable to the vocational high school (BHS) .

Education plan

The prerequisite is a passed relevant final examination  (AP). The course can also be attended by graduates of the final apprenticeship examination (Austria)  (LAP), i.e. apprentices after the dual training apprenticeship / vocational school , if they attend a preparatory course beforehand .

Compared to the BHS, the curriculum is shortened and takes 2 to 3 years depending on the subject.

The degree is a full study access, at the same time you receive the trade license . Graduates of technical training can apply to be awarded the status of engineer after at least 3 years of relevant professional experience.

Schools with advanced courses

Advanced courses - mostly in combination with colleges for high school graduates - are offered by most BHS in their field, and the special higher education institutions for working people , as well as at the WIFI and bfi , in their own classes, or part-time as evening school .
