The Berufsreifeprüfung ( BRP , Berufsmatura ) in the Austrian education system is a part-time educational path leading to a subject-specific Matura (matriculation examination).
Intention and story
A central concern of the Austrian school system is to guarantee access to higher educational qualifications as a lifelong opportunity. The professional maturity examination (BRP) introduced in 1997 with the federal law on professional maturity examinations is a further step towards this. In 2000 there was an amendment, which now also allows professional groups to whom the BRP has been denied access to the BRP. There was another amendment with the 2005 school law package .
It entitles you to study certain disciplines at universities and technical colleges and in this respect corresponds to a Matura - it is an externalist examination within the meaning of Section 42 of the School Education Act, Federal Law Gazette No. 472/1986. In addition, the passed vocational maturity examination fulfills the entry requirement for training in the senior administrative service.
This opens up new career opportunities for graduates of the dual system (with final apprenticeship examination), for graduates of at least 3-year middle schools, of vocational schools, such as for health care and nursing or for the medical-technical specialist service, as well as graduates of a master's examination , qualification examination or skilled worker examination and new educational opportunities. Due to the training period, the final examination can be taken at the earliest at the age of 19, partial exams can be taken from the age of 17. This means that the vocational school-leaving certificate cannot be acquired earlier than the other types of school-leaving certificate.
scope
The training takes place in the three general education main subjects (German, foreign language, mathematics) to the extent of 160 hours, in the department of 120 hours.
- The living foreign language does not apply to those students who have acquired a language certificate - generally the internationally recognized qualifications of the Certificate in Advanced English (CAE) type. This applies to English , French , Italian and Spanish
- The department does not apply to people who successfully pass an equivalent examination in terms of content, examination form, examination duration and level (e.g. master craftsman examination , trade law qualification examination , graduation from a technical academy , three or four-year technical school with completion of a thesis, diploma examination in nursing, etc.) have dropped
The final exam takes the form of an external exam ("external diploma"):
- German : 5-hour written test with the requirements of a high school diploma and an oral test with the aim of a discussion on a higher level
- Mathematics : 4-hour written test with the requirements of a high school diploma , the new BRP law comesinto forceon April 1st, 2017, which stipulates a 4.5-hour test in mathematics.
- Living foreign language: depending on the candidate's choice, a 5-hour written exam or an oral exam with the requirements of a secondary school leaving examination, usually English
- Subject area: 5-hour written test on a topic from the professional field of the candidate (including the professional environment) and a related oral examination with the aim of a discussion on a higher level
Curricula
The partial exams for the general subjects German, mathematics and English are taken according to the central school-leaving certificate. The partial examinations of the departments for the vocational maturity examination can be taken according to the curriculum of the following school types:
- General secondary school (AHS) excluding the department
- Commercial Academy (HAK)
- Higher technical college (HTL)
- other form of higher vocational school (BHS, e.g. HBLA, ...)
It is offered by most of the BHS in their specialist area and by the special higher education institutions for working people , as well as at the VHS, at the WIFI and the bfi , in their own classes or as an evening school alongside work .
