Research institute is mostly a technical or commercial research facility . As a teaching and research institute ( LVA for short ), it is usually associated with a higher school or university or a private organization with a teaching assignment.

Austria
In Austria, the research institutes are affiliated with the technical colleges (HTL) and a few other higher schools, and there are also several research institutes associated with the technical universities.
