The agricultural and forestry training institutes ( LFLA ) are schools for agricultural professions in the education system in Austria . They are directly subordinate to the Federal Ministry for Education, Science and Research (BMBWF for short) and the Federal Ministry for Agriculture, Regions and Tourism (BMLRT for short) as specialist ministries.

History and position in the education system

The distinction between these schools is historical, they are not administered by the state or city school council , but are directly subordinate to the two responsible ministries. Due to this special status, the schools are run under the group of central teaching institutions  (ZLA). They are regulated in the Federal Schools Act for Agriculture and Forestry , Federal Law Gazette No. 175/1966 .

The training in the agricultural professions is also laid down in the agricultural and forestry vocational training law.

The following schools belong to the agricultural and forestry schools:

  • Forestry School (FFS):
    • Forestry College Traunkirchen
  • Rural School and Education Center (BSBZ):
    • Rural school and education center for Vorarlberg Hohenems
  • HLA of the Graz School Sisters
    • Private higher education institution for agriculture and nutrition Eggenberg

Representation of the interests of the students

The students of the LFLA are also represented in the Central School Student  Representation (ZSV).
