The high school Christophorusschule (founding name: Dr. Wilhelm-Meyer-Gymnasium) is an all-day school with an attached boarding school and around 750 students. It is the founding institution of the CJD Braunschweig. The principle of talent-based, value-based and educational support for pupils has been the philosophy of the educational orientation in the school since 1977. Entrance and process diagnostics for the pupils as well as strong and permanent involvement of parents in the lesson structure supports this philosophy. A specialty of the high school Christophorusschule are therefore the talent-differentiating school programs. For high school gifted pupils with problems at school, these are the project classes (age group 5–6): In small classes, a double occupation of teachers and educators works on developing their high school skills in daily individual training sessions. The name of the high school goes back to the legend of Christophorus , in which the giant Reprobus carries the Christ child across a river.

The programs in the lower grades (age group 5-10), which are differentiated according to talent, also include:

  • The two-speed high school diploma (years 7-10): Depending on the class, pupils can complete the high school diploma in 12 or 13 years of regular school. In the S profile, from grade 7 to grade 10, 1/3 of the subject matter is saved and thus grade 9 is skipped.
  • Special courses for gifted / high performers (age group 5–6)
  • Klar gymnasial (age group 7-10): Aptitude-based differentiation in the classroom takes place through needs-based teaching in the core subjects German, English and mathematics, special courses for highly gifted / high-performing students (age group 5-6) and independent learning in the natural sciences. There are also special tutors who are in regular contact with the parents. (Vol. 7-8).
  • Cross-year profile lessons (age group 5–6) in the areas of: music, sport, handmade and MINT.

The programs in the upper level, which are differentiated according to talent, also include:

  • Excellence courses (age group 10–12): High performers / gifted students are given a level of difficulty above that of an advanced course through acceleration (higher learning pace) and enrichment (enrichment).
  • Competence courses (age group 10–12): outside of the regular curriculum, these courses give students the opportunity to develop their methodological and social skills in extracurricular content. Certificates and letters of reference allow you to partially count towards the waiting semester.

Boarding school in the CJD Braunschweig

Due to the special position of the high school Christophorusschule in the field of individual giftedness and giftedness, the students came from all over Germany from the beginning. The boarding school at the CJD Braunschweig was therefore founded shortly after the Christophorusschule high school. It now houses around 100 pupils aged 9 to 19 from the Christophorusschule grammar school and the Braunschweig-Wolfsburg International School. Living in the boarding school is shaped by the community. Girls and boys live in different residential groups in single or twin rooms in different residential groups, divided according to age and gender. Single rooms in a separate building are available for high school graduates. Particularly independent and reliable young people can, if desired, live in assisted living communities in the immediate vicinity of the boarding school and attend school from here. The boys and girls are always accompanied by experienced social pedagogues. Most of the students in the boarding school take part in the five-day Bildungskompass program at the beginning. The students live in the boarding school. Talent, knowledge, personality and social behavior are determined in various test procedures. At the end, an overall profile is created and the parents receive a recommendation and school career advice for the child. Children who do not live in the boarding school can also take part in the Bildungskompass. All boarding school students have access to sports and adventure education (climbing, hiking, canoeing excursions). The boarding school has sports facilities and its own music room. Some of the boarding school places are allocated and occupied by youth welfare offices via the KJHG.

The aim is the targeted promotion of the child's own self-determined learning. The school also works with an integrative program for children with a developmental lead. The promotion of creativity, the introduction to questions of religion, belief and values as well as the education for social responsibility are further important principles.
