The Ina Seidel School (ISS) was a municipal grammar school in Braunschweig from 1957 to 1990 .

history

The school named after the poet Ina Seidel emerged in 1957 as a division from the secondary school for girls in Kleine Burg . The number of pupils initially rose to over 900 by 1973, but then fell sharply, as in many grammar schools, after the introduction of the orientation levels and the increased establishment of comprehensive schools in Braunschweig.

When it became clear in the 1980s that the school's enrollment figures would only allow for a maximum of three-train operation in the long term, the city council of Braunschweig decided on May 5, 1987, the gradual processing, which was completed in 1990. The closure was preceded by a controversial public debate. Over 1700 students passed their Abitur here.

The buildings have been used by Vocational Schools III since 1990 (since 2005 Otto Bennemann School, Vocational Schools for Business and Administration (BBS III)) as a branch on Blasiusstrasse.

Pedagogical profile

The school was founded as a modern language girls' grammar school. In 1970 it was expanded to include a scientific profile and in 1971 co-education was introduced.

building

The schoolhouse consists of an L-shaped building with two floors. The head building is three-story and contains, among other things, a physics room and a library. There is a separate swimming pool to the north.
